Proxy Setup on Android

📌 Important Note:

Android does not offer full system-wide proxy support out of the box. Proxy settings typically apply only to the connected Wi-Fi network and primarily affect browser traffic. For full-device routing (including mobile data), a third-party app or VPN method is required.

System Proxy Configuration for Android

Step 1: Prepare Your Proxy Information

Make sure you have the following details from your Squid Proxies account:

  • Proxy IP address
  • Port number (usually 8800)
  • Username and password (for user/pass authentication)
  • Or ensure your device IP is whitelisted (if using IP authentication)

Step 2: Connect to a Wi-Fi Network

  1. Open the Settings app on your Android device.
  2. Go to Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
  3. Tap the gear icon ⚙ next to the Wi-Fi network you’re connected to.
  4. Select Advanced or scroll down for more options.

Step 3: Enter Proxy Details

  1. Under Proxy, tap Manual.
  2. Enter the following:
    • Proxy hostname: Enter your Squid Proxies IP
    • Proxy port: Enter the correct port (commonly 8800)
  3. Leave the Bypass proxy for field blank unless you want to exclude specific domains.
  4. Tap Save.

Step 4: Authentication (if required)

Android does not natively support username/password authentication for proxies via system settings.

To work around this:

  • Use a browser that supports proxy authentication prompts (like Firefox).
  • Or use a proxy app like Proxydroid, Drony, or a custom VPN app that allows credential input.

✅ If your Squid Proxies plan uses IP authentication, this step is not needed—just ensure your device's current IP is whitelisted.

Step 5: Test the Proxy

  1. Open a browser (Firefox recommended for best proxy support).
  2. Visit https://whatismyipaddress.com or http://ip-check.net.
  3. Confirm the IP matches the one assigned by Squid Proxies.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • No IP change detected?
    • Ensure your device is using Wi-Fi and that you saved the manual proxy settings correctly.
  • Authentication not working?
    • Try switching to Firefox, which supports proxy logins, or use an app like Drony for advanced control.
  • Need mobile data proxying?
    • Use a third-party proxy VPN app or set up a proxy tunnel through a VPN-compatible app.

Disable Proxy on Android

  1. Go to Settings & Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the gear icon âš™ next to your connected Wi-Fi network.
  3. Under Proxy, select None.
  4. Tap Save.

This returns your Android device to direct internet access.
